BoundariesThe constituency encompasses Moulvibazar Sadar and Rajnagar upazilas.[2][3] HistoryThe constituency was created in 1984 from a Sylhet constituency when the former Sylhet District was split into four districts: Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.[4] Members of ParliamentElectionsElections in the 2010sSyed Mohsin Ali died in September 2015. Syeda Saira Mohsin, his widow, was elected unopposed in November 2015 after the Election Commission disqualified the other four candidates in the by-election scheduled for December 2015.[8] Syed Mohsin Ali was elected unopposed in the 2014 general election after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[9] Elections in the 2000s{{Election box begin | title=General Election 2008: Maulvibazar-3[2][11][12]}}{{Election box candidate with party link||party = Bangladesh Awami League |candidate = Syed Mohsin Ali |votes = 144,921 |percentage = 55.3 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Bangladesh Nationalist Party |candidate = Saifur Rahman |votes = 112,895 |percentage = 43.1 |change = -51.2 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Independent (politician) |candidate = Shamim Afzal |votes = 1,950 |percentage = 0.7 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Communist Party of Bangladesh |candidate = Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed |votes = 1,264 |percentage = 0.5 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Socialist Party of Bangladesh |candidate = Mamunur Rashid Sohel |votes = 997 |percentage = 0.4 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal |candidate = Aliur Rahman |votes = 97 |percentage = 0.0 |change = N/A }}{{Election box majority| |votes = 32,026 |percentage = 12.2 |change = -76.4 }}{{Election box turnout| |votes = 262,124 |percentage = 84.8 |change = +45.3 }}{{Election box gain with party link without swing| |winner = Bangladesh Awami League |loser = Bangladesh Nationalist Party }}{{Election box end}} Saifur Rahman stood for two seats in the October 2001 general election: Sylhet-1 and Maulvibazar-3. After winning both, he chose to represent the former and quit the latter, triggering a by-election.
