McPherson Cemetery is known for being the burial place of the Union Army General James B. McPherson, for whom the cemetery is named. HistoryIn 2014, the 150th anniversary of McPherson's funeral was held at McPherson Cemetery.[1] Notable burials
RegulationMcPherson Cemetery has regulations on the amount of items that can be placed around gravestones, and where these items can be placed. No more than three items are allowed to be donated to a gravestone, unless they are not placed on the grass. Cemetery staff encourage people to keep items away from the lawn as much as possible to prevent damage to lawnmowing equipment and to the donated items.[2] IncidentsVandalismThere have been multiple cases of vandalism in McPherson Cemetery. The most notable example is the August 2010 persistent destruction of graves and items. Two teenagers were charged for this crime, who caused an estimated $100,000 of damage to the cemetery. In September, after the incident, Clyde's city manager Paul Fiser said that "the cemetery [was] 95 percent back to normal, thanks to the hard work of the parks and cemetery department."[3] TheftIn 2013, Jeffrey Huey, a Clyde citizen who is a self-proclaimed "art enthusiast", was detained for stealing 60 to 70 items from multiple different cemeteries in the area, including Oakland Cemetery in Sandusky and McPherson Cemetery.[4] References{{Portal|Death|Military history|Ohio}}1. ^{{cite web | title = Clyde remembers McPherson |publisher=Sandusky Register|last=Wark|first=Luke|date= 29 July 2014| url = http://www.sanduskyregister.com/News/2014/07/29/Clyde-remembers-McPherson.html | accessdate = 2016-01-09 }} {{Clyde, Ohio}}{{coord|41|18|36|N|82|58|4|W|display=title}}2. ^{{cite web | title = Cemetery visitors urged to follow rules on placing tributes |publisher=Port Clinton News Herald|last=Shoup|first=Craig|date= 8 May 2015| url = http://www.portclintonnewsherald.com/story/news/local/2015/05/08/cemetery-visitors-urged-follow-rules-placing-tributes/27010375/ | accessdate = 2016-01-09 }} 3. ^{{cite web | title = Second teen charged in McPherson Cemetery vandalism |publisher=Sandusky Register|last=Webber|first=Sarah|date= 27 September 2010| url = http://www.sanduskyregister.com/News/2010/09/28/Second-teen-charged-in-McPherson-Cemetery-vandalism.html | accessdate = 2016-01-09 }} 4. ^{{cite web | title = Evidence of grave crimes found in Clyde |publisher=The Blade|last=McCray|first=Vanessa|date= 11 June 2013| url = http://www.toledoblade.com/Police-Fire/2013/06/11/Evidence-of-grave-crimes-found-in-Clyde.html | accessdate = 2016-01-09 }} 1 : Cemeteries in Sandusky County, Ohio |
