The other 44, including four senators representing Federal Territories, are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also for three-year term.[5] Barisan Nasional remains the majority in the Dewan Negara even though Pakatan Harapan becomes the governing party in the Dewan Rakyat in the present Parliament. This is due to the constitutional nature that senators are not elected directly by the people, but instead elected by the State Legislative Assembly or appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which most of senatorial elections or appointments took place in the previous parliamentary term, i.e. the 13th Parliament. Current composition The current composition of the Dewan Negara is correct as of 20 March 2019.[6] | 25 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 28 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | PH | WARISAN | UPKO | HINDRAF | BN | GS | GPS | GERAKAN | LDP | IPF | IND | VAC |
