As a player, McComie played as a goalkeeper at both professional and international levels. He later became an award-winning coach. Playing careerClub careerAs a youth McComie played for St Augustine Secondary, and was recognised for his ability in what was described as a "talented" team led by Jerren Nixon.[1] He played senior football in the TT Pro League for San Juan Jabloteh and Joe Public.[1] His transfer between the clubs involved a five-figure transfer fee.[1] He also played indoor football in the United States.[4] He retired from playing in 2004.[2] International careerMcComie represented Trinidad and Tobago under-20s at the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship.[1] He earned five caps for the senior team.[1] His international career was hampered by the availability of other Trinidadian goalkeepers such as Shaka Hislop, Ross Russell, Kelvin Jack and Clayton Ince.[1] Playing styleMcComie was renowned for his playing forward of the traditional goalkeeper's position acting almost as a defensive sweeper at a time when relatively few goalkeepers chose to play the ball in the outfield; he also played on occasion as a midfielder or striker.[1] Coaching careerMcComie worked as an assistant coach to the Trinidad and Tobago under-23 team before returning to Joe Public for the second time in July 2007.[3] He was replaced by Keith Griffith in July 2008, but continued to work with the Trinidad and Tobago under-17 team.[4] While with Joe Public he won the TT Pro League Manager of the Year award.[1] He also managed Ma Pau Stars, Guaya United and the Trinidad and Tobago under-20 team.[2][5] He ended his career with FC Maracas in 2016.[1] Later life and deathMcComie also played table tennis, and served on the board of the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association.[1] McComie died on 4 December 2018, at the age of 46, from a brain tumour which was diagnosed only 24 hours previously.[6] He had four daughters.[6] References1. ^1 {{NFT player|pid=6705|accessdate=5 December 2018}} {{TT Pro League Manager of the Year}}{{DEFAULTSORT:McComie, Michael}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=https://newsday.co.tt/2018/12/05/ex-tt-goalie-mccomie-passes-away/|title=Ex-TT goalie McComie passes away|date=5 December 2018|accessdate=5 December 2018|author=Joel Bailey|publisher=Newsday}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://archives.newsday.co.tt/2007/07/16/jabloteh-held-to-1-1-draw/|title=Jabloteh held to 1-1 draw|date=16 July 2007|accessdate=5 December 2018|author=Joel Bailey|publisher=Newsday}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.socawarriors.net/league/league-news/tt-pro-league/3758-mccomie-relieved-of-public-duties.html|title=McComie relieved of 'Public' duties|date=31 July 2008|accessdate=5 December 2018|publisher=SocaWarriors}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.guardian.co.tt/sports/former-footballer-mccomie-has-passed-6.2.730000.0b8c85bfb6|title=Former footballer McComie has passed|date=4 December 2018|accessdate=5 December 2018|work=Trinidad and Tobago Guardian}} 6. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 {{cite web|url=https://wired868.com/2018/12/04/ex-world-youth-cup-goalie-mccomie-passes-away-after-being-diagnosed-with-brain-tumour/|title=Ex-World Youth Cup goalie, McComie, passes away, after being diagnosed with brain tumour|date=4 December 2018|accessdate=5 December 2018|author=Lasana Liburd|publisher=Wired868}} 14 : 1972 births|2018 deaths|Trinidad and Tobago footballers|Trinidad and Tobago under-20 international footballers|Trinidad and Tobago international footballers|San Juan Jabloteh F.C. players|Joe Public F.C. players|TT Pro League players|Association football goalkeepers|Trinidad and Tobago football managers|Joe Public F.C. managers|Ma Pau Stars S.C. managers|TT Pro League managers|Deaths from brain tumor |
