PlotEmily Lynch arrives from America to the fictional Dublin neighborhood of St. Jarlath Crescent and, in her encouraging and resourceful way, rehabilitates the lives of everyone she meets. The main plot line centers around her cousin, Noel, an alcoholic who still lives at home, who finds out from a dying girlfriend that she is expecting his baby that he doesn't remember conceiving. Noel accepts the challenge of single parenthood with the help of family and friends, including characters from previous Binchy novels Heart and Soul and Scarlet Feather.[1][2] Themes and topicsThe teamwork involved in caring for the motherless girl named Frankie conveys the message that "everyone's life is better when individuals, communities and governments work together to care for those in trouble".[3] Binchy has also invested this novel with contemporary topics not seen in her earlier novels set in the mid-20th century. These topics include: email, text messaging, redundancy, recession, addiction, cancer, and paternity testing.[4] AdaptationShay Linehan, playwright-in-residence at the Irish Classical Theatre Company, adapted the novel for a 2017 play.[5][6] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.denverpost.com/ci_17475586|title=Review: "Minding Frankie" by Maeve Binchy|first=Christian|last=Toto|work=The Denver Post|date=27 February 2011|accessdate=30 August 2015}} 2. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/binchy-s-reliable-recipe-1.667701|title=Binchy's Reliable Recipe|first=Denise|last=Deegan|date=23 October 2010|accessdate=30 August 2015|work=The Irish Times}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/mar/6/book-review-minding-frankie/|title=Book Review: 'Minding Frankie' |first=Claire|last=Hopley|work=The Washington Times|date=6 March 2011|accessdate=30 August 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/books/review-minding-frankie-by-maeve-binchy-26692290.html|title=Review: Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy|first=Mary|last=Kenny|date=23 October 2010|accessdate=30 August 2015|work=Irish Independent}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=https://irishclassical.com/minding-frankie/|title=Minding Frankie|publisher=Irish Classical Theatre Company|year=2019|accessdate=5 January 2019}} 6. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/stage/minding-frankie-maeve-binchy-s-bittersweet-novel-comes-to-the-stage-1.3111067|title=Minding Frankie: Maeve Binchy’s bittersweet novel comes to the stage|first=Peter|last=Crawley|date=7 June 2017|accessdate=5 January 2019|work=The Irish Times}} External links
