The Aden-Abyan Islamic army was also believed by some experts{{who|date=July 2017}} to have been involved in the 2000 USS Cole bombing in Aden. The group has been designated as a terrorist organization by Canada and the United Kingdom.[3] The group is thought to have organized in southern Yemen in the mid 1990s, with members that include veterans from the Soviet war in Afghanistan[4]. Their stated mission is to "promote jihad in the fight against secularism in Yemen and other Arab States; to establish an Islamic government in Yemen".[5] References1. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/aden-abyan.htm |title=Archived copy |access-date=2006-02-12 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060210002610/http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/aden-abyan.htm |archive-date=2006-02-10 |dead-url=no |df= }} {{Terrorism-stub}}{{Yemen-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|last1=Pike|first1=John|title=Aden-Abyan Islamic Army|url=http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/aden-abyan.htm|website=www.globalsecurity.org|access-date=2006-02-12|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060210002610/http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/aden-abyan.htm|archive-date=2006-02-10|dead-url=no|df=}} 3. ^{{cite act |title=Terrorism Act 2000 |number=11 |year=2000 |article=2 |articletype=Schedule |url=http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/11/schedule/2 |accessdate=2019-03-02 |archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/66QN91QnI?url=http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/11/schedule/2 |archivedate=2012-03-25 }} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://[page-url]/|title=Page Title - Oklahoma State University|website=Site Name|language=en|access-date=2019-02-27}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Islamic Army of Aden (IAA) - Mackenzie Institute|url=http://www.mackenzieinstitute.com/islamic-army-aden-iaa/|publisher=Mackenzie Institute|date=7 January 2016|access-date=2016-10-16|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161107022845/http://mackenzieinstitute.com/islamic-army-aden-iaa/|archive-date=2016-11-07|dead-url=no|df=}} 9 : Islamist groups|Islamic organizations|Jihadist groups in Yemen|Organisations designated as terrorist by the United Kingdom|Organizations designated as terrorist in Asia|Organizations designated as terrorist by Canada|Organizations of the Yemeni Crisis (2011–present)|Terrorism in Yemen|Yemeni Crisis (2011–present) |
