Mongla Export Processing Zone or Mongla EPZ[1] ({{lang-bn| মংলা রপ্তানী প্রক্রিয়াকরণ এলাকা}}) is one of the eight export processing zones under BEPZA (Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority).[2][3] It's located in Mongla which is very adjacent to Port of Mongla. Like other EPZ, Mongla EPZ is also headed by General Manager. Mongla Export Processing Zone is governed by BEPZA which is one of the wings of Prime Minister's Office.[4][5] The current chairman of BEPZA is Major General Md Habibur Rahman Khan.[6]

History

Mongla Export Processing Zone was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina on May 23, 1998.[7] The zone has received investment from 29 companies as of 2015, of which 16 have gone into production and rest are under construction.[8] The zone has faced criticism for having some environmentally harmful industries.[9] Mongla EPZ performance has been below government expectations.[10]
