Mouna Ragam ({{lang-ta|மௌன ராகம்}}, {{lang-en|Silent Symphony|italic=yes}}) is a 2017 Indian-Tamil Language Musical Family soap opera which premiered on 24 April 2017 and airs on Star Vijay and Hotstar. The show is produced by actress Chippy Renjith and features an ensemble cast comprising Baby Krithika, Janani Ashokkumar, Chippy Renjith, Manohar and Seema G. Nair.

It is a remake of the Bengali language television series Potol Kumar Gaanwala which began airing on Star Jalsha in 2015. It started airing on 24 April 2017 on Vijay TV every Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM (IST).[1][2][3][4] Malayalam actors Chippy Renjith, Rajeev Parameshwar and Seema G. Nair, who play the lead roles, are making their Tamil-language debuts with the series.[5] It won six 4th Vijay Television Awards including Best Child Actor, Best Supporting Actor Female, Best Supporting Actor Male and Special Contribution Song's. Child actress Krithika also received the Best Child Actor award at the Galatta Nakshathra Awards 2018.

Plot

Mallika (Chippy Renjith) encourages her daughter Shakthi (Krithika) to pursue her passion for music. However, she finds herself haunted by memories of a turbulent relationship with a famous musician (Rajeev Parameshwar).[6]

    • Mallika and Karthik Krishna's daughter, Kaadhambari's step-daughter, who is born out of wedlock, and is a natural singer. She is cute, naughty and prodigiously a talented girl. She was raised by her mother. Music is Shakthi's life, but despite Shakthi's passion for singing, her mother, Mallika prevents her from joining the singing because her father left them for his music career. After her mother died, Swarna exploits Shakthi to sing for her own selfish benefits, but however her uncle takes a stern decision regarding Shakthi. She reaches Chennai, disguised as a boy with hopes of finding her biological father.She is adopted by Karthik Krishna's childless elder brother, Murali Krishna and sister-in-law, Nandini, who eventually discover Shakthi's lineage and assist in her attempts to reconcile with her father.

    • A well renowned playback singer and the estranged biological father of Shakthi, Mallika and Kaadhambari's husband. He is a acumen and smart person. He falls in love with Mallika, who lived in Kuttralam. They secretly got married although he wanted to be a successful singer. Mr. Vishwananthan gave him an opportunity for him to sing, but including conditions that Karthik would have to marry his daughter, Kaadhambari. He then leaves Mallika and marries Kaadhambari, and is unaware about his and Mallika's daughter Shakthi. He eventually discovers that Shakthi is his daughter through the interference of Mallika's brother, Pazhani and ever since tries his level best to secure a bright future for Shakthi and make up for her lost childhood, while rescuing her from the clutches of Kaadhambari, Vishwanathan and Rukmani.

    • Shakthi's biological mother and Karthik Krishna's estranged first wife She had loved Karthik and got married to him secretly. Karthik left her for his career and never returned. Their marriage gave her a child Shakthi, who is a natural singer. But Mallika hates music, owing to her haunting memories of her relationship with Karthik Krishna. She was believed to have unfortunately passed away in an accident caused by Kaadhambari and her sister Maya. However she survived the accident, with a severe case of amnesia, where she was rescued and brought to Guruji's Ashram where she currently resides.
  • Shamitha Shreekumar as Kadhambari or Kadhambari Karthik Krishna / Kaadhu (Antagonist)[8]
    • Karthik's second-wife and Shruthi's mother and Shakthi's step mother, who is a woman brought up with pampered love by her parents. She fell in love with Karthik supposedly, after listening to and watching his performance and demanded her father, Vishwanathan for Karthik, who accordingly, did the essential and formed an agreement to fuel Karthik's career if he married his daughter. However, before her marriage to Karthik, she was brutally raped by her college friend, Raaghav, who had developed a crush on her since he met her, However, Vishwanathan tactfully hides this incident and gets Kaadhambari married to Karthik. After marriage, she has daughter, Shruthi. She will do anything in order to ensure her daughter's happiness going to vast extents. But Raghav claims that Shruthi as his daughter. Kadhambari used to despise Shakthi and Karthik's family and constantly taunts and torments their lives, along with her parents.

  • Baby Sherine as Shruti (Main Antagonist) daughter of
    • Kaadhambari and Karthick An argumentative girl, who has been spoiled by her mother and grandmother, Rukmani. She constantly exhibits behavioral problems from being overindulged by Karthik's family. She hates Shakthi because her father loves and showers more affection on Shakthi. She also constantly torments Shakthi in numerous ways and battles with her for Karthik's affection.
  • Janani Ashok Kumar as Miss Mallika
    • Shruthi and Shakthi's Governess, who also serves as a mother figure to Shakthi. She is the first person to discover Shakthi's real identity and eventually discovers Shakthi's relationship to the family through Murali Krishna.
  • Manoharan Krishnan as Murali Krishna (Protagonist)
    • Karthik Krishna's elder brother and a renowned musician himself, who finds out about Shakthi and adopts her, along with his wife, Nandhini as their own daughter. He is very loving and caring towards Shakthi, and always protects her from the evil clutches of Kaadhambari and Vishwanathan. He is also the prime source of support to Shakthi, who has helped her to achieve her dreams, despite facing facing numerous personal problems and losses, in the process.
  • Nathan Shyam as Raghavan aka Raghav
    • Kadhambari's ex-boyfriend. He had developed an attraction and infatuation towards Kaadhambari during their college days, and was unable to control himself when he realised that Kaadhambari did not love him and was getting married to another person. As a result of this, he brutally raped Kaadhambari, the previous night before her wedding.He was sent to jail for 8 years by Vishwanathan, Kadhambari's father who concealed this matter and got her married to Karthik Krishna.
  • Tamil Selvi as Nandhini Murali Krishna
    • Murali's wife and Karthik's sister-in-law. She is a very emotional and sensitive person who initially dislikes Shakthi, falling prey to Vishwanathan's plot, but eventually realises the truth and repents for her msitakes. She serves as Shakthi's mother figure, and is extremely possessive over her and is unable to control herself or let go of Shakthi.
  • Supergood Kannan as Pazhaniswamy
    • Mallika' brother, Shakthi's loving maternal uncle, Swarna's husband and Nila's father, He is a farmer by profession, and lives to ensure that Shakthi is living a peaceful and happy life.
  • Baby Adthiri as Lavanya
    • Shakthi's closed friend and Shruthi's Enemy.
  • Raghavan as Guruji
    • An ayurvedic medical practitioner and a close family friend and well-wisher of Karthik Krishna's family, who revives and heals Mallika after her unfortunate accident. Mallika currently resides in his Ashram. Good Guruji.
  • Seema G. Nair / Shilpa as Swarna (Antagonist)
    • Shakthi's aunt and Mallika's sister-in-law, who is very cunning and selfish. She exploits Shakthi's singing skills to her own benefit, while she also manages to fool Nandhini and Karthik into believing Nila (Swarna's daughter) to be Shakthi and manages to obtain monetary benefits from them.
  • Anand Babu as Vishwanathan (Antagonist)
    • Kadhambari's and Maya's father, Shruthi's Grandfather. A popular and renowned film producer and billionaire, who is wiling to do anything to secure his daughter's future.
  • Anjali Devi as Rukmani Vishwanathan (Antagonist)
    • Kadhambari and Maya's mother, Vishwanathan's wife and Shruthi's Grandmother. She is a very cunning and selfish who tends to be a loudmouth,bobblered mouth and a gossip.
  • Devika as Parvathi Krishnan
    • Murali's and Karthick's mother, Shakthi and Shruti's grandmother and Mallika, Kaadhambari and Nandhini's mother-in-law.
  • Sesu as Maya Vishwanathan (Antagonist)
    • Kadhambari's sister, Vishwanathan and Rukmani's daughter, Shruthi's Aunt. She along with Kaadhambari were responsible for Mallika's accident in Kuttralam. She flees to Australia in fear of being linked to and arrested for the accident.

Release and Marketing

On 7 April 2017, the first promo of the show 'Odum Meenum Ketkum' Song was released by STAR Vijay on Facebook. On 16 April 2017, the second, promos of the show 'Odum Meenum Ketkum' 1 Minute Song' was released by STAR Vijay TV on YouTube.[9]
