Movement in black is a collection of poetry published in 1990 by African American, lesbian feminist and poet Pat Parker.[1] The poems featured in the collection center around themes of social justice and lgbtq+ experience.[2] By writing on her personal experiences as an African American queer woman Parker's writing connects the political with the personal, calling for action in regards to the areas in which she sees a need for change.[3] Movements in Black follows Parker's experiences after her experience with her physically abusive first husband and failed second marriage during a time when she was exploring and developing her sexuality and beginning to identify and embrace her identity as a lesbian.[4][5] Included in this collection is a poem titled "For Audre", written for Audre Lorde a contemporary poet and friend.
