MV Honfleur is a roll on/roll off passenger vessel that is under construction for Brittany Ferries and expected to enter service in 2019.

History

Brittany Ferries ordered Honfleur in June 2017 from German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft at a cost of about €200 million.[1][2] Construction began in March 2018 when the first steel was cut, followed by the laying of the keel several months later.[3][4] Her launch is planned for December 2018, and following fitting out she is scheduled to be delivered in May 2019 before entering service the following month.[4] Once in service, she is to sail between Portsmouth, England and Caen, France.[1]

Honfleur was launched from the ship hall at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft on the morning of 14 December 2018, and will receive her superstructure over the next few weeks.

Design

Honfleur measures 42,400 GT, with a length of {{convert|187.4|m|ft}}, a beam of {{convert|31|m|ft}}, and a draft of {{convert|6.6|m|ft}}.[4] She can carry up to 1,680 passengers, with 261 individual cabins, and has a 2,600 lane meter freight deck, with a capacity of 130 freight trucks, or 550 passenger cars and 64 trucks.[4] She is powered by four liquefied natural gas engines, with an output of about {{convert|30000|kW|hp}}, driving electrical generators that power two propellers, giving her a {{convert|22|kn|mph}} service speed.[4][2]
