BoundariesThe constituency encompasses Bandar Upazila and the Narayanganj Thana portion of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. Narayanganj Thana consists of Narayanganj Municipality, and Alirtek and Gognagar union parishads.[2][3] HistoryThe constituency was created in 1984 from a Dhaka constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: Manikganj, Munshiganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census.[4] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[5] Members of Parliament

Salim Osman, his brother, was elected in a June by-election.[8][9] Nasim Osman was re-elected unopposed in the 2014 general election after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[10] Elections in the 2000s{{Election box begin | title=General Election 2008: Narayanganj-5[2][12][13]}}{{Election box candidate with party link||party = Jatiya Party (Ershad) |candidate = Nasim Osman |votes = 174,651 |percentage = 57.1 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Bangladesh Nationalist Party |candidate = Abul Kalam |votes = 127,149 |percentage = 41.6 |change = -1.4 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Communist Party of Bangladesh |candidate = Montu Ghosh |votes = 1,538 |percentage = 0.5 |change = +0.3 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Bangladesh Tarikat Federation |candidate = Zahid Bahar Shaiploo |votes = 1,210 |percentage = 0.4 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Socialist Party of Bangladesh |candidate = Abu Naeem Khan Biplob[14] |votes = 827 |percentage = 0.3 |change = N/A }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh |candidate = Md.
