Founded in 2007, it is made up of 4 local chapters and 63 affiliate organizations around the country, along with thousands of individual members.[1][2] Their work advocates for low-income laborers in the context of broader social justice issues, including immigration reform, domestic violence, and more recently the #Metoo movement.[3] The NDWA advocates for a Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights, including overtime pay, one day off per week, and protection under state human rights laws.[2] A version of this bill of rights was passed in New York in 2010 thanks to the NDWA's advocacy, and similar legislation has recently been introduced in California. [4][2] Ai-jen Poo is the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.[5] In 2014, she was awarded a MacArthur fellowship, "a five-year grant given to the nation’s most exceptionally creative individuals, to fund her vibrant, worker-led movement to transform the working conditions and labor standards for private-household workers."[6]References1. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.domesticworkers.org/about-us|title=About Us {{!}} National Domestic Workers Alliance|website=www.domesticworkers.org|language=en|access-date=2018-03-25}} 2. ^1 2 {{Cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/21/magazine/national-domestic-workers-alliance.html,%20https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/21/magazine/national-domestic-workers-alliance.html|title=The New Labor Movement Fighting for Domestic Workers’ Rights|last=Hilgers|first=Lauren|date=2019-02-21|work=The New York Times|access-date=2019-03-10|language=en-US|issn=0362-4331}} 3. ^{{Cite news|url=http://web.b.ebscohost.com.citytech.ezproxy.cuny.edu/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?vid=4&sid=faa649a9-c1f5-4284-9d6a-33622ef290bd%40sessionmgr102|title=Meeting rallies to ‘stand with those whose backs are against the wall’|last=|first=|date=|work=|access-date=2018-03-25|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=https://labor.ny.gov/legal/domestic-workers-bill-of-rights.shtm|title=Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights|last=New York State Department of Labor|first=|date=|website=|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=}} 5. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.marketplace.org/2018/03/13/economy/make-me-smart-kai-and-molly/53-hidden-workplaces-all-around-us|title=53: The hidden workplaces all around us|access-date=2018-03-25}} 6. ^{{Cite news|url=https://work.qz.com/1185580/national-domestic-workers-alliance-director-ai-jen-poo-makes-the-economic-case-for-listening/|title=MacArthur genius Ai-jen Poo makes the economic case for listening|work=Quartz at Work|access-date=2018-03-25|language=en-US}} 8 : Labor movement in the United States|Advocacy groups in the United States|Domestic workers|Non-profit organizations based in the United States|Domestic work|Labor rights|2007 establishments in the United States|Organizations established in 2007 |
