At the age of 18 he went to Chennai for his first business venture, where he made his fortune in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.[2] CareerNavrattan Kothari joined his father in KGK Group in 1960.[2] After his marriage in 1962, he assumed the leadership of the business.[3] Under his guidance, KGK Group transformed the landscape of gems and jewellery industry for decades.[4] The business expanded in the 1970s moving from trading of coloured gemstones to sparkling diamonds and then to jewellery manufacturing in 1996.[5] As the Patriarch, he has been steering the company and enlightening the KGK team worldwide.[2] Kothari is the Chairman of Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur.[6][7] He is a member of the Managing Committee of the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and member of International Coloured Gem Stone Association – New York.[8] He is also a member of KGK Wish Foundation.[9] PhilanthropyKothari established Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (BMCHRC), a cancer treatment center through which he offers free treatment for BPL families and funds cancer awareness initiatives across Jaipur.[10] In 1997, he founded Cancer Care (all women wing) led by his wife Anila Kothari, an associate body of (BMCHRC) which provide psychological aid to the patients and their attendants free of charge.[11] In 2010, Kothari established KGK Dreamz foundation which fulfills one true wish of children aging between 1 to 16 years at BMCHRC.[9] Kothari is also a president of SS Jain Subodh Shiksha Samiti, a non-profit that provides free education to students in Rajasthan, India from elementary to post graduation courses.[12] Kothari initiated training centres in his manufacturing units, where people are trained for the Gems and Jewellery industry with the view of making them self-reliant.[13] He undertook the restoration of dilapidated Jal Mahal in Jaipur and revitalization of Man Sagar Lake.[14] Awards
