He studied at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. Private lifeNecdet Turhan was born in Balıkesir, Turkey in 1957. He was schooled in Bursa due to his father's professional assignment. He lost his eye sight due to a corneal disease started at the age of 23. After finishing the high school, he studied Political science and Public administration at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He graduated with honours in 1994.[2] Currently, he lives in Bursa.[3] Sports careerTurhan started mountaineering by joining the "Mountain climbing and Winter sports Club" at his university. Even though he faced objection from the club members in the beginning due to his disability as blind, he was then allowed to take part in climbing. He was at the summits of Bey Dağları, Mt. Erciyes and many more in Turkey. Later, he got interested in long-distance running as he met master athlets exercising at the Bursa Atatürk Stadium. In 2000, he took part at the Istanbul Marathon running in the {{cvt|15|km}} category.[2] As part of a project titled "Five marathons, five summits in five continents", which was sponsored by the "Bridge to Turkey Fund" of the Turkish people living in the U.S.,Turhan ran the New York City Marathon (Americas) in 2002, the Athens Classic Marathon (Europe) in 2004, the Japan World Blind Marathon (Asia) in 2005, the Sydney Marathon (Australia) in 2006 and the Egyptian Luxor Marathon (Africa) in 2007. He climbed the summits, the {{cvt|5137|m}}-high Mt. Ararat (Asia) in 2007, Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa) {{cvt|5895|m}} in 2008, Mont Blanc (Europe) {{cvt|4808|m}} in 2010 and Mt. Sherman (Americas) {{cvt|4280|m}} in 2014.[2] After completing five marathons and four summits,[7][3] he finally achieved his project goal in 2017 by climbing the {{cvt|2228|m}}-high Mt.
