On 1 January 2014 the former municipalities of Aetingen, Tscheppach, Brügglen, Aetigkofen, Bibern (SO), Gossliwil, Hessigkofen, Mühledorf (SO), Küttigkofen, Kyburg-Buchegg merged into the new municipality of Buchegg.[1] HistoryAetingen is first mentioned in 1267 as Etinge.[2] GeographyBefore the merger, Aetingen had a total area of {{convert|2.9|km2|mi2|abbr=on}}.[3] Of this area, {{convert|1.2|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}} or 42.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while {{convert|1.21|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}} or 42.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, {{convert|0.4|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}} or 14.1% is settled (buildings or roads), {{convert|0.04|km2|acre|abbr=on}} or 1.4% is either rivers or lakes.[2] Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.8%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 7.4%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 28.6% is used for growing crops and 13.1% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.[2] The former municipality is located in the Bucheggberg district, in the Limpach valley along the southern flank of the Bucheggberg. It consists of the haufendorf village (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) of Aetingen and the settlement of Brittern. The population was made up of 137 Swiss men (44.8% of the population) and 10 (3.3%) non-Swiss men. The next three most popular parties were the SVP (24.88%), the Green Party (12.27%) and the SP (10.95%).
