The Next Parti Québécois leadership election will replace Jean-François Lisée, who resigned on October 1, 2018 after leading the Parti Québécois to a fourth place finish in the 2018 Quebec general election and failing to be re-elected in his own riding.

Background

On October 1, 2018, the Parti Québécois came in fourth in the Quebec general election, winning only nine seats and 17% of the popular vote, an all-time low. It was overtaken by left-wing sovereignist party Québec solidaire, which won ten seats. PQ leader Jean-François Lisée announces his resignation as leader after losing his own riding.^[1]^[2]

Pascal Bérubé was named interim leader on October 9, 2018.
