The BBC also broadcast substantial extracts from the appeal in its TV news programmes. In his resignation letter,[27] a version of which was published in Private Eye,[28] Alam, while expressing support for the BBC as an institution, criticized its decision and objected to statements that gave the impression the whole of the appeals advisory committee had been party to the BBC's decision. His letter specifically defended the impartiality of the Disasters Emergency Committee recommendation to broadcast the appeal and disputed the logic of the then Director General' Alam was interviewed on his resignation by journalist and broadcaster Peter Oborne for an edition of Channel 4's Dispatches. The BBC Trust reported in its 'Decision of the BBC Trust' document on the appeal that, 'the BBC Executive had received about 40,000 complaints about the Director General's decision'.[29] The 2009 Gaza appeal is the only occasion on which the BBC is known to have refused an appeal broadcast request from the DEC. The 2009 DEC Gaza appeal screened only by Channel 4 and ITV raised £8.3m.[30] In August 2014, the BBC broadcast a new DEC aid appeal for people in Gaza,[31] screened without similar controversy, which is reported to have raised £16m over two years.[32] References1. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=2011|title=LPFA Governance Report|url=https://www.lpfa.org.uk/Files/Files/Annual%20Reports/2011/GovernanceReportV1Approved1072011.pdf|journal=LPFA Governance Report 2010/11|volume=|pages=5 of 24|via=LPFA}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Alam, Niaz}}2. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=26 November 2008|title=Confirmation Hearings Committee Appendix D|url=https://www.london.gov.uk/moderngovlldc/Data/Confirmation%20Hearings%20Committee/20090216/Agenda/4d%20Minutes%2026%20November%20Appendix%20D%20PDF.pdf|journal=GLA|volume=|pages=3 of 13|via=Greater London Authority}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://www.dhakatribune.com/opinion/op-ed/2017/09/10/solidarity-include-citizenship/|title=Solidarity should include citizenship {{!}} Dhaka Tribune|website=www.dhakatribune.com|language=en-US|access-date=2017-10-09}} 4. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://hcommons.org/members/niazalam/|title=Niaz Alam – Humanities Commons|website=hcommons.org|language=en-US|access-date=2017-10-09}} 5. ^1 {{Cite news|url=https://www.blast.org.bd/content/news/27-02-2015-new-age.pdf|title=New Age newspaper Report on meeting on ‘Rules in local govt law needed to ensure female empowerment’|last=|first=|date=February 27, 2015|work=New Age Bangladesh|access-date=|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=}} 6. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=2010|title=LPFA Governance Report|url=https://lpfa.org.uk/Files/Files/Annual%20Reports/2009/GovernanceReport2008-09.pdf|journal=Governance Report|volume=|pages=12 of 21|via=LPFA}} 7. ^1 2 {{Cite news|url=https://www.thirdsector.co.uk/bbc-advisory-panel-member-resigns-protest-gaza-appeal/communications/article/879730|title=BBC Advisory Panel member resigns protest gaza appeal|last=|first=|date=|work=Third Sector|access-date=|archive-url=|archive-date=9 February 2009|dead-url=}} 8. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.pensions-insight.co.uk/acting-responsibly/1463635.article|title=Acting responsibly|work=Pensions Insight|access-date=2017-10-09|language=en}} 9. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.ft.com/content/70d87a70-2779-11d9-a0dd-00000e2511c8|title=Scope for growth in Islamic banking|last=|first=|date=26 October 2004|website=Financial Times|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=2017-10-09}} 10. ^{{Cite web|url=http://events.investmentweek.co.uk/sustainableinvestmentawards/static/judges|title=Sustainable Investment Awards 2017|website=events.investmentweek.co.uk|language=en-GB|access-date=2017-10-10}} 11. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.ethicalperformance.com/news/article/4313|title=Ethical Performance {{!}} News article: inbrief|website=www.ethicalperformance.com|language=en|access-date=2017-10-10}} 12. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.redpepper.org.uk/blood-sweat-and-gear-the-human-cost-of-the-olympics/|title=Blood, Sweat and Gear: The human cost of the Olympics|website=www.redpepper.org.uk|language=en-US|access-date=2017-10-10}} 13. ^{{Cite web|url=http://lifeworth.com/lifeworth2008/about/|title=About {{!}} Lifeworth.com 2008|website=lifeworth.com|language=en-US|access-date=2017-10-12}} 14. ^{{Cite journal|date=January 2003|title=What can DFID do better for Bangladesh ? 2003|url=https://hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:15857/|language=en-US}} 15. ^{{Cite web|url=https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200304/cmselect/cmintdev/79/79we09.htm|title=House of Commons - International Development - Written Evidence|last=Commons|first=The Committee Office, House of|website=publications.parliament.uk|access-date=2017-10-10}} 16. ^{{Cite web|url=https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200304/cmselect/cmintdev/uc79-v/79iii.pdf|title="Submission to the House of Commons International Development Committee (IDC) inquiry into Migration and Development" (PDF).
