释义 |
Nicola van Houbraken (1660 – 1723) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque specializing in playful arrangements of still life paintings of fruits, vegetable, animals and game. He was also known as Nicolino or Niccolino and with the surname of Vanderbrach or even Van Bubranchen. Nicola was born to Dutch parents at Messina. Nicola's father, Ettore (Hector, died 1723), and his grandfather, Giovanni Houbraken, were both painters of religious subjects. Ettore and his family was forced to leave Sicily in 1674 for Livorno after the Messina revolt against Spanish rule. Nicola and his still lifes were popular with the Medici Court.[1] It is unclear if he was related to the Dutch art biographer, Arnold Houbraken.
