Niccolò "Nico" Mannion (born March 14, 2001) is an Italian-American basketball player who attends Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona. A point guard who stands {{height|ft=6|in=3}}, he is ranked among the top high school players in his class and has represented Italy in international competition. Mannion has received several offers from major NCAA D1 schools and had committed to the University of Arizona as the No. 10 PG Prospect in the Class of 2019.

High school career

Before playing for Pinnacle High School he has received multiple college scholarship offers, including to a Power Five conference.[1]

Recruiting

Mannion was considered the top player in the 2020 recruiting class by Scout.com, Rivals.com and ESPN. But he reclassified to the 2019 class. He had narrowed his choices between two schools: Arizona and Marquette. On September 14, 2018, Mannion committed to play for the Arizona Wildcats over Marquette. He was a consensus five-star prospect out of Pinnacle HS in Phoenix and ranked the consensus No. 5 overall player by the four main recruiting services.

College career

Mannion signed his NLI to play for the University of Arizona for basketball. He was selected for the 2019 McDonald's All American Game, along with fellow recruit Josh Green.

National team career

Mannion played for Italy in the 2017 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship and was the top scorer in the competition with 19.9 ppg.[2][3] He made his international senior debut for Italy at the age of 17 when the team faced The Netherlands in a 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup European qualifying match.[4][5]

Personal life

He is the son of former National Basketball Association player Pace Mannion.[6] His father played collegiately at the University of Utah and also played professionally in Italy, winning the 1990–91 FIBA Korać Cup with Clear Cantù.[7]

His mother was a professional volleyball player in Italy.[8]
