}}Nikema Williams is an American politician. She currently serves as a member of the Georgia State Senate for District 39, succeeding Vincent Fort in a special election in 2017 after his resignation to compete in the Atlanta mayoral election. She currently serves as Chair[1] of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and was a delegate to the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions. Prior to being elected as state senator, Williams served as vice-president of Public Policy for Planned Parenthood Southeast.[2]

She is a graduate of Talladega College.[3] She is the third woman and second African American to chair the party.

In January 2019 Williams became the first Black woman elected to lead the Georgia Democratic Party.[4]

Nikema Williams was arrested during a protest at the Georgia State Capital on November 13, 2018.[5] The arrest was made despite her not taking part in the protest or doing anything wrong, and she has since talked about the issue of racial profiling in arrests.[6]
