Nitin Palan MBE, known as Nick Palan, is a businessman and a campaigner for community and interfaith relations.

Palan was born in Uganda and is of Indian origin. His family emigrated to the UK when he was 16 years old. He qualified as a chartered accountant and built a travel business which is now estimated at around £50 million. His company Golden Tours[1] employs more than 200 staff in the UK and India. The company’s blue tourist buses are a common site around London’s tourist hotspots.

Overview

Palan, with his wife Kamu Palan, has set up a charitable trust, the Golden Tours Foundation[2] which supports social development projects in education, interfaith and heritage.

Palan has stood on various government-linked and interfaith committees. The most notable being his continued support for the Inter Faith Network for the UK which works for good relations between different faiths in the UK. Palan is instrumental in working with the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (popularly known as Neasden Temple) Charities which is proactive in organising social action projects in the UK and worldwide.

Some of his projects include the founding of Diwali in London Festival [3] in Trafalgar Square attracting over 35,000 people every year. He has supported causes such as the Queen’s Household Division Charities for serving and retired guardsmen of the Division and their families; The Prince's Charities through British Asian Trust to fund education and Variety, the children’s charity where the Golden Tours Foundation provides their tourist buses to hundreds of disabled people to see the sights of London.

Palan is an advocate of heritage-led projects. His Golden Tours Foundation with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund,[4]{{failed verification|date=May 2018}} he embarked on a two year project to highlight the role of Indian soldiers in WW1 as part of the WW1 Centenary Commemorations. The work India 1914: Remembering Indian Soldiers[5]’ has included collaborations with key organisations such as the Imperial War Museum and the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. The work continues both in the UK and India.

To highlight the role of the Hindu community in the UK, Palan founded the Hindu Matters in Britain [6]{{failed verification|date=May 2018}} web portal which provides information and data on anyone who may be interested in learning about the community. Palan is working closely with the underprivileged communities of India by providing funds for education for young people and medical facilities for communities. He works closely with the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS) in providing teaching and learning between the UK and India.

Personal life

Palan is married to Kamu Palan who is the Chief Financial Operator for Golden Tours, the mobile app was outsourced to their own award winning team in India but its a 1 star app. Their son Mikesh Palan is currently the Managing Director of Golden Tours Ltd.[7] Nitin Palan was awarded the MBE in 2016 for his services to community relations.[3]
