He holds personal bests of 9.88 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 19.65 seconds for the 200-meter dash. Lyles is the 300m indoor world record holder with a time of 31.87 from the 2017 US Indoor Champs. He won the gold medal in 200 m during the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. He won gold medals in 100 m and 4 × 100-meter relay during the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. BiographyHe was a gymnast as a youth and started track and field at 12 years of age. His parents Keisha Caine and Kevin Lyles competed in Track and Field at Seton Hall University.[9][10] He attended T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. PrepLyles cleared {{T&Fcalc|2.04}} as a high school junior. In November 2015, he received the same honor as 2015 Track and Field News high school boys athlete of the year.[11] In March 2016, Lyles won 200 meters at high school New Balance Nationals Indoor. In April 2016, Lyles was named boys track events MVP after winning 200 (20.48) and 100 meters (10.17) in the rain at 2016 Arcadia Invitational.[12] In June 2016, Lyles won 100 meters (10.08) at USATF Junior (U20) Outdoor Championships.[13] He ran a 200 m in 20.09 seconds to beat Roy Martin's national high school record from effectively the same National Championship race in 1985. In July 2016, Lyles placed fourth at 200 meters in 2016 United States Olympic Trials (track and field) in 20.09 (Wind: 1.6).[14] He was a double gold medalist at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships, taking the 100 m and 4 × 100 m relay titles. ProfessionalLyles had committed to compete for the University of Florida, but in July 2016, Noah and his younger brother Josephus instead turned professional and signed with Adidas.[15] In November 2016, Noah Lyles was named 2016 Track and Field News high school boys athlete of the year. In his first full season as a professional, Lyles won his first national title (over 300 meters at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships), took a silver in the 4 × 200-meter relay with the USA team at the 2017 IAAF World Relays, and won two meetings on the 2017 IAAF Diamond League circuit. Lyles proved himself among the world's best sprinters in the 2018 season. He won the 200 m at the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix and Prefontaine Classic before taking the 100 m title at the 2018 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in a personal record of 9.88 seconds. This ranked him as the world leading sprinter by time for the season.[16] That made Lyles the world leader in both the 100m and 200m, in which he ran 19.69 on 26 May at Eugene, Oregon. His 9.88 was surpassed later in the season by a 9.87 by Ronnie Baker, then a 9.79 by Christian Coleman. He is the youngest US athlete to be both sub-10 and sub-20. He became the youngest US champion in the 100m since Sam Graddy in 1984.[17] Lyles set his personal best 19.65 at Herculis in Monaco, then capped the 2018 IAAF Diamond League with a win at the final Weltklasse Zürich in 19.67. It was the fourth time under 19.70 in the same season. Only one other individual has been under 19.70 four times in a career, world record holder Usain Bolt who also did it four times during his record-breaking 2009 season.[18] StatisticsPersonal bests
