It covers an area of {{convert|355.9|ha|sp=us}}, of which {{convert|261.8|ha|sp=us}} is sea.[2][3] The land area includes the west side of Langøya and three larger islands (Fuglenyken, Måsnyken, and Spjøten) as well as several smaller islands.[3][4] The area is protected to safeguard many important breeding sites for seabirds.
