释义 |
It was built in 1740 for a London wine merchant, Henry Deacon.[1] It was largely remodelled in the early 1920s by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis, for Sir Geoffrey Fry, 1st Baronet, private secretary to Bonar Law and Stanley Baldwin.[1] Its gardens, which include a summerhouse also designed by Williams-Ellis,[2] are listed Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.[3] To the west of the gardens stands the Oare Pavilion, completed in 2003 and the only British building designed by I. M. Pei.[4] It is owned by Sir Henry Keswick.[5][6] References1. ^1 2 {{National Heritage List for England entry|num=1035754|desc=Oare House|access-date=18 July 2015}} {{wiltshire-geo-stub}}2. ^{{National Heritage List for England|num=1364675|desc=Summer House to south garden, Oare House|access-date=20 September 2017|fewer-links=yes}} 3. ^{{National Heritage List for England|num=1001241|desc=Oare House|access-date=20 September 2017|fewer-links=yes}} 4. ^{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/wiltshire/hi/people_and_places/newsid_8506000/8506716.stm|title=Summer house architect wins top award|date=10 February 2010|work=BBC News|accessdate=19 September 2017}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.marlboroughnewsonline.co.uk/component/jevents/eventdetail/348/-/open-garden-oare-house?Itemid=319|title=marlborough.news - Open Garden: Oare House|author=|date=|website=www.marlboroughnewsonline.co.uk|accessdate=23 September 2017}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.thisiswiltshire.co.uk/news/5001279.Pavilion_at_Oare_wins_award/|title=Pavilion at Oare wins award|author=|date=|website=This Is Wiltshire|accessdate=23 September 2017}} 3 : Grade I listed buildings in Wiltshire|Grade I listed houses|Country houses in Wiltshire |
