|date=October 2017}}Oded Lipschits (born May 15, 1963) is a full professor in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near East Studies at the Tel-Aviv University, where he also serves as the Director of the Sonia and Marco Nadler Institute of Archaeology. He also heads the Ancient Israel Studies MA program.[1]

Short biography

Lipschits was born in Jerusalem in 1963. Served in the IDF between 1981 and 1985 (in reserve until 2008), discharged with the rank of major. Began his studies of archaeology and Jewish history in the Tel Aviv University in 1985; received his PhD in 1997, from the Department of Jewish history, Tel Aviv University. The subject of his doctoral dissertation was: “The ‘Yehud’ Province under Babylonian Rule (586-539 B.C.E.): Historic Reality and Historiographic Conceptions”, which he wrote under the supervision of Prof. Nadav Na'aman.[1] The work was later published as a book.[2] In 1998 he became a Lecturer; in 2002 he received the title of Senior Lecturer with tenure from the Department of Jewish history, Tel Aviv University; in 2007 he became Associate Professor; and in 2012 he was appointed Full Professor at the Tel Aviv University. He headed the archaeological project in Ramat Rachel, near Jerusalem, between 2004 and 2010, and since 2008 he's been heading the archaeological project in Tel Azeka.[1]

Oded is married to Yael (Moreno) Lipschits. They have 4 children.[1]

  • 2005 – 2008 – Corpus of the Yehud Stamp Impressions: Typology, Chronology, Distribution and Function (together with Prof. David Vanderhooft, Boston College).[5]
  • 2007 – 2009 – Typology and classification of lmlk Jars, based on 3D scanning technology (together with Avshalom Karasik, and Dr. Yuval Gadot).[6]
  • 2008 – 2010 – Corpus of the Lion Stamp Impressions from the Persian Period: Typology, Chronology, Distribution and Function (together with Dr. Tallay Ornan, Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
  • 2008 – 2010 – The Judean Stamped Jars from the Late Iron Age, the Persian and the Hellenistic Periods: Its Dates, Distribution and Function.
  • 2008 – Director of the Ellah Valley Regional Project.[7]
  • 2008 – The Lautenschläger Excavations at Azekah.[8][1]
