Dan Smith described the concept behind the release as being to "create a fictional film score or film soundtrack using cover versions of songs".[2] It was released online, available free.[3] Smith stated that the group were contacted and asked to take down the tracks.[2] The tracks "Of The Night" and "What Would You Do?" were later released on the compilation album All This Bad Blood, with the former released as a single.[4] Track listThe EP was composed of mashups of cover versions and samples of other artists' music, film quotes, and the band's own songs.[5] {{tracklist| collapsed = | headline = Other People's Heartache | extra_column= Original artist(s) | title1 = Adagio for Strings (What Is Love?) | note1 = featuring Maiday | extra1 = Samuel Barber, Haddaway | length1 = 3:59 | title2 = What Would You Do? | extra2 = City High | length2 = 3:22 | title3 = Requiem for Blue Jeans | extra3 = Clint Mansell, Kronos Quartet, Lana Del Rey | length3 = 3:57 | title4 = Of the Night | extra4 = Corona, Snap! | length4 = 3:34 | title5 = Titanium | note5 = featuring Barnaby Keen Band | extra5 = David Guetta, Sia Furler | length5 = 2:54 | title6 = Love Don't Live Here | note6 = featuring Rory Andrew, Jonas Jalhay and F.Stokes | extra6 = Rose Royce | length6 = 6:02 | title7 = Falling | note7 = featuring Ralph Pelleymounter | extra7 = Angelo Badalamenti, Julee Cruise | length7 = 3:45 |all_writing=|title8=|length8=|title9=|length9=|title10=|length10=|title11=|length11=|title12=|length12=|title13=|length13=|title14=|length14=|title15=|length15=|title16=|length16=|title17=|length17=|title18=|length18=|title19=|length19=|title20=|length20=|total_length=}} Critical responsePopMatters gave the EP 8/10, hailing it for "demonstrating the power of a good cover".[6]Part two{{Infobox album| name = Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2 | type = mixtape | artist = Bastille | cover = | alt = | released = {{Start date|2012|12|}} | recorded = | venue = | studio = | genre = | length = | label = | producer = | prev_title = Other People's Heartache | prev_year = 2012 | next_title = Bad Blood | next_year = 2013 }}Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2 is a cover EP self-released by Bastille in December 2012.[7] Track listLike the previous installment, Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2 largely comprises mashups of samples, cover songs, film quotes and the band's own music. {{tracklist| collapsed = | headline = Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2 | extra_column= Original artist(s) | title1 = Tuning In | note1 = featuring HUMS Contemporary Choir | length1 = 1:02 | title2 = Killer | extra2 = Adamski, Seal | note2 = featuring F*U*G*Z | length2 = 3:01 | title3 = No Angels | note3 = featuring Ella Eyre | extra3 = TLC, The xx[8] | length3 = 4:00 | title4 = Walk to Oblivion | note4 = featuring Ralph Pelleymounter | extra4 = Gheorghe Zamfir, The ARC Choir | length4 = 2:21 | title5 = Forever Ever | note5 = featuring Jay Brown and Kate Tempest | extra5 = The Fugees, Enya[9] | length5 = 3:42 | title6 = Dreams | note6 = featuring Gabrielle Aplin | extra6 = Fleetwood Mac | length6 = 4:19 | title7 = Thinkin' Ahead | note7 = featuring O.N.E. and Ric Elsworth | extra7 = Frank Ocean, Hans Zimmer | length7 = 4:03 | title8 = Free | note8 = featuring Ella Eyre and Erika | extra8 = Tina Turner, N-Trance[10] | length8 = 3:18 | title9 = Sweet Pompeii | extra9 = Calvin Harris, Thomas Newman[10] | length9 = 2:32 | title10 = Basement | note10 = featuring F*U*G*Z and F.Stokes | extr10 = | length10 = 3:51 | title11 = Oh Holy Night | extra11 = Adolphe Adam | length11 = 2:16 }} Critical receptionCherwell gave the EP 4/5, commending its having built upon Part One, saying "Dan Smith getting even more ingenious with his connections between film and music and adventurous with his production".[3] It praised the humour of the sampling: "'Sweet Pompeii', mostly a soulful cover of Calvin Harris' 'Sweet Nothing', almost seems like a practical joke on the listener as we go from the verse to a clip of Bernie Sanders talking about the economy to a hilariously unexpected sample of the exact beat break from Harris’ version."[3]Part three{{Infobox album| name = VS. (Other People's Heartache, Pt. III) is an EP by Bastille, released in December 2014. Unlike the previous two EPs it does not feature covers, but instead a number of collaborations with other musical artists on original tracks,[11] and was the first to be released commercially.[12] The track "The Driver" was released as a part of a re-scored version of Drive.[13] Track list{{tracklist| collapsed = | headline = VS.
