It is 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long and is located 38 miles (61 km) east of Akutan Island. Aiktak is an Aleut name transcribed by Captain Tebenkov in 1852 as "Ostrov Aikhtak." R. H. Geoghegan suggested that the name is derived from the Aleut "aikhag", meaning "travel or going on a voyage." It is also known as Ashmiak.[2] References1. ^{{cite book | first=K. | last=Bergsland | authorlink=Knut Bergsland | year=1994 | title=Aleut Dictionary |publisher=Alaska Native Language Center |location=Fairbanks }} {{Islands in the Bering Sea}}{{coord|54|11|01|N|164|49|41|W|scale:100000|display=title}}{{AleutiansEastAK-geo-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|author=U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey|title=Bulletin|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=j3XpAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA175|edition=Public domain|volume=36-41|year=1900|publisher=U.S. Government Printing Office|pages=175–}} 3 : Krenitzin Islands|Islands of Alaska|Islands of Aleutians East Borough, Alaska |
