The PANA Coalition (formerly PAN Coalition) is a political alliance between three political parties in Kosovo: The Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Initiative for Kosovo, which stood in the 2017 elections. After the election, the New Kosovo Alliance joined the coalition.

History

Leaders of the Kosovo War signed an agreement to enter the pre-election coalition in preparation for the elections to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander Ramush Haradinaj. The PDK-AAK-NISMA alliance challenged the 'moderate coalition' headed by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

A few minutes before the official deadline set by the Central Election Commission (CEC) for the creation of pre-election alliances, the alliance between PDK, AAC and NISMA ended. In addition to AAC and NISMA, PDK agreed with seven small parties to participate in a candidate list for Kosovo's future law. PDK, which was the highest-voted party in Kosovo in the previous election, agreed that the leader of the small coalition party - AK, Ramush Haradinaj, would run the Prime Minister's post in Kosovo, while PDK leader Kadri Veseli was on the list of candidates. Based on the agreement, the leader of Nisma, Fatmir Limaj, who dropped the PDK and established his own political party, would be appointed the first Deputy Prime Minister if the coalition won the parliamentary election. This was the first time since the end of the war that all former KLA commanders had joined political parties.[1]

After elections

According to non-official results of the snap polls organized on June 11, 2017, no single party achieved a majority. The coalition termed "war wing" by the Kosovo media, and led by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), President Hashim Thaci held 35%. The coalition included former Prime Minister and rebel leader Ramush Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAC). Hardinz, nominated to be the new Prime Minister of the coalition, was accused by Serbia of war crimes.

Election of President of Parliament

Nomination of Kosovo's Prime Minister was delayed. To secure the required 61 votes, it was necessary to join with other political groups or seek support from different MPs.

The political crisis created uncertainty whether the coalition can achieve a majority in the election of the prime minister.

The Nationalist Party "Vetevendosje" and "LAA" do not want Kadri Veseli, to be the president of the Synod.

Joining of AKR

In the early hours of September 4, AKR President Behxhet Pacolli left the coalition between the Democratic League of Kosovo and Alternativa (LAA Coalition) Democratic League.

The junior New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) agreed to join the party to form a coalition government headed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

The agreement was signed on September 4 and includes the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo future with ethnic minorities, 63 of the 120 seats of the Parliament.[2]

Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti, commenting on the AKR's agreement with PAN, said that after the agreement, the formation of the Kosovo Assembly and the formation of the new government was left in the hands of Vucic.[3]
