It was legally established by Act No. 18 of June 3, 1997. National Police of Panama and the National Air Service (SENAN), National Border Service, Institutional Protection Service (SPI) and National Migration Service make up the security forces. Panama's National Police is directly subordinated to the President through the Minister of Public Security since 2010.
