Peppermint Park is an American direct-to-video children's show consisting of 6 Volumes, released in 1987 and 1988 on VHS. The show had many similarities to Sesame Street, in that it was a mixture of live action, animation, and puppets. Characters included Ernie, who sang a song about the letter M; Snorkee, a reptile who is often oblivious to his surroundings and lacks common sense; Maynard, an elderly man who laments over his wasted youth; and Piggle, a pig with a big appetite, amongst others.

The videos are now out of print, and are extremely difficult to find, but full VHS transfers of the episodes can be found on YouTube.

Production and release

The series was directed and produced by John Horton and Mark V International, and released by Televidics Productions. Most of the puppets were created by Dann O'Quinn; but volumes four through six also featured puppets created by Dave Chapman. Human characters included "The Story Lady" (played by Melody Knighton, who also assisted in the operations of some of the puppets) and "Magic Megan" (played by Deanna Hawkins). Additionally, animated segments were done by "Those Designers", Inc., and the music was composed by Tuesday Productions and John Horton. Most likely due to very poor sales, budget problems, and/or negative reviews, the series was cut short and was cancelled sometime in 1988. By this point, the six volumes had already gone out of print. For at least 1990 and 1991, it was distributed to Low-Power TV stations by Enoki Films USA.[1][2]

Recent recognition and cult following

The series has gained a small cult following due to the general absurdity of the series and YouTube Poop (YTP) edits, usually around a skit where a character named Ernie discusses and sings a song about the letter "M". There are other skits that have been the source material for these memes and edits as well, including one where another character named Maynard sings about the color blue. The show's popularity lasted from 2006 to sometime in 2008 or 2009. It was ignited again from 2010 to 2013 or 2014, with the most recent being reignited in 2016, with a video by YouTuber [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcK72Xs5DAM3mnGpyImg63Q Chadtronic] being made about the show & several YTPs.
