Billed by the media as the [https://www.standard.co.uk/tech/perlego-ed-tech-spotify-for-textbooks-a3931526.html "Spotify for Textbooks"], Perlego offers students and professionals unlimited reading on a subscription model. Perlego's mission is to "make educational material more accessible and affordable for all"[1] and to help publishers recover royalty share lost to online textbook piracy[2]. HistoryFounded in the second half of 2016 by recent university graduates Gauthier Van Malderen and Matthew Davis,[3] Perlego was designed as a solution to the ever-increasing prices of university textbooks.[4][5] Perlego initially raised £850,000 in Seed funding from angel investors, including Simon Franks (co-founder of LoveFilm and Redbus) in 2016.[6][7] It launched the Beta-version of its website in the UK at the start of 2017 with 65,000 titles initially.[8] By July 4, 2017, Perlego had acquired over 200,000 titles on its platform from publishers including Bloomsbury, Oxford University Press, Wiley,[8] and Cengage[9] Perlego closed a Series A funding round of £3,700,000 in September 2018, led by Accelerated Digital Ventures.
