释义 |
Phoenix or Phoinix ({{lang-gr|Φοίνιξ}}) was a town in ancient Crete. Strabo places it on the southern coast of the island, on the isthmus that joins the western third with the rest of Crete.[1] It is also mentioned in the Bible in the Acts of the Apostles regarding the voyage of the ship that took Paul the Apostle to Rome as a prisoner, where it is said that it was a port. It looked northwest and southwest and was considered a good place to spend the winter there. However, a storm did not allow the ship to reach the place.[2]It also appears in the list of 22 cities of Crete mentioned in the Synecdemus of Hierocles in the 520s.[3] The site of Phoenix is located near modern Foinikas.[4][5] References1. ^{{Cite Strabo|10.4.3}} {{coord|35.1866272|N|24.3466822|E|display=title|format=dms|source:http://dare.ht.lu.se/places/41478}}{{AncientGreece-stub}}{{Crete-geo-stub}}2. ^{{Bibleverse|Acts|27|KJV}} 3. ^{{Cite Hierocles| }} 4. ^{{Cite Barrington|60}} 5. ^{{Cite DARE|41478}} 3 : Populated places in ancient Crete|Former populated places in Greece|New Testament places |
