She and María Josefa de Riba were the first Spanish women to play international tennis tournaments after World War II.[1][2][3]CareerShe was the first Spanish lady to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open since Lilí de Álvarez. She was also a semifinalist in the 1956 mixed doubles competition. She was a pioneer, appearing regularly at the French Open during the 1950s and 1060s in a time where female tennis wasn't very popular in Spain. No other Spanish player would reach a GS quarterfinal until Arantxa Sánchez Vicario in 1987.[4] Career finals Singles (5–7) Outcome | No. | Date | Tournament | Surface | Opponent | Score | Runner-up | 1. | format=dmy|1954|8|29}} | S'Agaró International, Spain | Clay | ESP}} {{sortname|María Josefa|de Riba|}} | 4–6, 2–6 | Runner-up | 2. | format=dmy|1954|12|26}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | BEL}} {{sortname|Christiane|Mercelis|}} | 3–6, 3–6 | Runner-up | 3. | format=dmy|1960|6|6}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | BER}} {{sortname|Heather|Segal|}} | 1–6, 1–6 | Winner | 4. | format=dmy|1961|1|2}} | Valencia, Spain | Clay | ITA}} {{sortname|Lucia|Bassi}} | 6–0, 6–4 | Runner-up | 5. | format=dmy|1961|7|30}} | Evian, France | Clay | FRA}} Rosie Darmon | 2–6, 5–7 | Winner | 6. | format=dmy|1962|6|10}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | AUS}} {{sortname|Mary|Hawton}} | 6–2, 2–6, 7–5 | Runner-up | 7. | format=dmy|1963|1|1}} | Valencia, Spain | Clay | ESP}} {{sortname|Carmen|Coronado}} | 2–6, 2–6 | Runner-up | 8. | format=dmy|1963|10|9}} | San Sebastián, Spain | Clay | USA}} {{sortname|Mary|Habicht}} | 6–3, 4–6, 2–6 | Winner | 9. | format=dmy|1964|8|10}} | Lisbon, Portugal | Clay | AUS}} {{sortname|Fay|Toyne}} | 6–2, 6–2 | Winner | 10. | format=dmy|1964|10|4}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | ITA}} {{sortname|Roberta|Beltrame}} | 6–4, 5–7, 6–4 | Runner-up | 11. | format=dmy|1964|11|15}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | AUS}} {{sortname|Fay|Toyne}} | 1–6, 1–6 | Winner | 12. | format=dmy|1966|11|13}} | Barcelona, Spain | Clay | ESP}} {{sortname|María José|Aubet}} | 6–2, 6–4 |
