The show stars Akshay Mhatre and Sheen Dass in lead roles, who made their Indian television debut with this show.^[5] Producer Sooraj Barjatya has worked for about 8 years on this show. The show began airing from March 6, 2017 replacing Jamai Raja.^[6]

Plot

Piyaa Albela is a modern-day interpretation of the classic love story of Menaka and Vishwamitra. The show revolves around Naren Vyas (Akshay Mhatre) and Pooja Goel (Sheen Das), who are poles apart from each other. Naren is on the path of spirituality, studying psychology, more in the classroom of his mind and soul than an average college, Naren barely even reads the news. Unkempt in appearance and erratic in his manner, he is looked upon as reclusive and anti-social. Lost in his own world of meditation, the poor little rich boy is a rebel, a maze Naren's own parents, Supriya Vyas (Jyoti Gauba), and Harish Vyas (Avinash Wadhawan), have failed to decipher. Pooja on the other hand, is all that Naren is not, warm, confident and a complete people's person. Her talents range from being a karate champ who can straighten wayward boys trying to get fresh with her to dancing like a dream at the cultural nights of her university. Pooja came as the answer to all those questions Naren's parents had in their minds and they were instantly convinced that Pooja is the girl Naren needs in his life.

Although initially thinking that Naren is fraud, Pooja starts praising his good-nature after several incidents,such as teaching kids of red-light area. Naren and Pooja become inseperable but Pooja falls for Naren after he saves her from being raped by his cousin, Rahul Vyas (Ankit Vyas). Naren is bound to marry Surbhi Singhania (Ritu Chauhan), the daughter of Harish's friend Yash Singhania (Saptrishi Ghosh). Pooja agrees to get married to Dr. Anand (Suraj Kakkar). Naren's cousin, Mayank Kaushal (Tushar Khanna), is also in love with Pooja. Mayank's love for Pooja turns into obsession as he kills Anand on his wedding. To save Pooja, Naren marries her while Surbhi gets married to Rahul. Soon, Naren also realizes that he loves Pooja. But they get separated as Pooja finds out that her horoscope had some problems. She leaves insulting Naren resulting Naren to hate Pooja. While trying to save Pooja, Supriya meets with a fatal accident and becomes mentally unstable.

1 Year Later

Pooja returns back to Naren's life as Mrs. Kapoor. Meanwhile, Naren had changed a lot in appearance and attitude. Naren, who was a simple and sober man, has become ruthless womanizer. Pooja's friend, Ashish Kapoor (Khalid Siddiqui), tries to solve Pooja and Naren's misunderstanding but Rahul makes Ashish believe that Pooja loves him. Ashish turns negative and joins hands with Rahul and Surbhi. Naren falls in their trap and proposes Surbhi to marry him. Pooja records Ashish's confession and stops Surbhi and Naren's wedding. A guilt-stricken Naren apologies to Pooja but Ashish comes between and tries to kill Naren. Pooja shoots Ashish and Naren takes the blame. However Kapoor reaches the court on time and saves Pooja. The preparation of Naren and Pooja's wedding begins. But just one day before the wedding, a huge bell falls on Pooja's head as she was praying for Supriya's health and safety and Supriya is cured while stopping a man who was trying to kill Pooja. After regaining consciousness at hospital, Pooja starts acting like a 5 years old. Pooja's maternal uncle, Satish Gupta (Kuldeep Malik), takes Pooja with him to Dehradun who was Pooja's hometown. Naren is frustrated when everyone including Supriya also tries to send Pooja to mental-asylum. He marries Pooja and tells everyone that he will take care of Pooja's health and safety. He once again wins Pooja's trust by saying that he is her best friend. Naren tries his level best to cure Pooja. However, it is revealed that Pooja was just feigning to be mentally unstable as she was trying to save Naren's grandfather, Kashinath Vyas (Kanwarjit Paintal), from Kapoor and also trying to hide the fact that Naren is not Supriya and Harish's biological son. On New Year event, Kapoor kidnaps Pooja but Pooja kills Kapoor while trying to save Kashinath. Pooja decides to end her insanity game. Enters Naina Goel (Gulki Joshi), Pooja's step-sister. Naina seeks revenge on Pooja as she thinks because of Pooja's mother, their father always preferred Pooja over her. Mayank falls for Naina on the first sight while Naina sets her eyes on Naren as Naren is Pooja's biggest weakness. Naina reveals to Naren that Pooja was just feigning to be mentally unstable and Naren gets furious on Pooja. However, Naren's health detoriates as the result of his excessive consumption of alcohol. Pooja finds out Naren's real mother, Chandrika (Jaya Binju Tyagi), who is a prostitute. To save the truth from Vyas family, Satish and Pooja lie that Pooja is Chandrika's daughter while Naina is the illegitimate niece of Satish. The whole Vyas family starts hating Pooja (except Kashinath).

6 Months Later

Mayank is dead. Pooja lives in Krishnapuri, a red-light area with Chandrika. Naren is standing for elections and visits Pooja everyday at Krishnapuri. Everyone thinks that Naren does this because he loves Pooja but only Chandrika, the Vyas family & Naren's P.A., Danish (Danish Kapai), know that Naren hates Pooja. However, Pooja continues to fulfil her duty of a wife. She helps Naren in various ways and annoys Naren in front of media. Naren hires a shooter to kill Pooja. Before that, Naren takes Pooja to Dehradun and before returning, Naren takes Pooja to a beautiful decorated place. But seeing Pooja's immense trust on him, Naren decides not to kill her. They consummate their marriage.

The next day at Naren's ralley, the sharpshooter shoots Pooja. A furious Naren asks the shooter who asked him to shoot when Naren cancelled the plan. The shooter answers Naren's female P.A. asked him to continue with the plan. Naren realizes Pooja knew about the shootout but still she came to the ralley. He asks for forgiveness but as Pooja's trust on Naren broke,she refuses to hear anything. However, the duo together expose Naina who confesses her crimes from making Supriya paralyzed to framing Chandrika for the same to killing Mayank to held a 7 months pregnant Surbhi captive to conspiring against the Vyas family to planning to kill Rahul and then marrying Naren.

Kashinath reveals that Naren is Chandrika's son. A heart-broken Naren leaves Vyas Mansion. At a Ashram, Naren and Pooja's wedding takes place. Naren and Pooja meet Bela (Neha Marda) and Praveen (Krishanu Rathore), another newly-wed couple. Bela is completely introvert while Praveen is monkey in one sense, a complete extrovert with a strange bhojpuri accent, a pan-lover and a horrible dancer. A priest awares Naren to beware of big-brown eyes (Bela). Harish, on Rahul's instigation, sets out to kill Naren.

Harsha Kaushal (Chaitrali Gupte), Mayank's mother (i.e. Naren's aunt), informs Naren, Chandrika, Supriya and Pooja about it. In order to save Harish, Naren faces a fatal accident with Praveen. They both are taken to hospital where Praveen dies and Naren needs a heart-transplant. Naren receives Praveen's heart. A strange change appears in Naren's behaviour as he starts behaving like Praveen.

It is revealed that Bela is planning to take revenge from Praveen's parents as they insulted her parents for dowry resulting Bela's mother's death and father's blindness. Naren, under Bela's spell, captivates Praveen's parents. Bela kills Praveen's parents but spares Naren as Naren and Pooja saves Bela's father (Pawan Mahendru). Bela surrenders to police.

Enters Meghna (Sangeita Chauhan), Naren's adoptive sister. Meghna is blind. Meghna introduces Kunal Goenka, the boy she loves and wants to marry. On the day of her wedding with Kunal, Meghna gets raped. The suspicion falls on Naren as everyone says that he was absent from the venue. Pooja saves Naren from the accusations. The next suspicion falls on Pooja's cousin Anuj Gupta (Rohan Rai), Danish, Rahul and Kunal.

The real culprit tries to kill Surbhi and Pooja as they came to know about his real identity. Surbhi looses her child. Then, it is revealed that Rahul's father (i.e. Harish's brother), Hardik Vyas (Vijay Kalvani), is the real culprit. Hardik is arrested. After Meghna and Kunal's marriage, there is a entry of Angraj (Sahil Uppal), Harish and Supriya's biological son. Pooja and Anuj doesn't like it cause Pooja has a disturbing past with Angraj. Angraj sets his eyes on Pooja again and tries to kill Naren. On the day of Pooja's birthday, Anuj shoots Angraj while saving Pooja and Naren kills Anuj.

Angraj gets a plastic surgery and returns with Naren's face and kidnaps

the real Naren. Angraj (now Akshay Mhatre) takes Naren's place at home. After an interesting twist in the plot, Supriya herself kills Angraj. The story ends with Supriya managing Angraj's foundation, Rahul and Surbhi having a baby boy, Anuj's wife Rachel (Sandhya Mehta) gets married to Rahul's half brother Arjun Vyas (Khushwant Walia), and Pooja gets pregnant with Naren's child.
