The presence of extra-floral nectaries in Polygonum ciliinode suggests a relationship with the RMF clade, as this is one of the characteristics of the clade. Its relationships remain unsettled; it may represent an as-yet-unrecognized lineage in the Polygoneae.[10]{{Polygoneae cladogram}}]References1. ^{{Citation |last1=Michaux |first1=Andreas |date=1803 |contribution=Polygonum cilinode |title=Flora boreali-americana, sistens caracteres plantarum quas in America septentrionali collegit et detexit Andreas Michaux |volume=1 |page=241 |publication-place=Paris |publisher=Levrault |contribution-url=https://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/405016 |accessdate=2019-03-04 |language=la}} 2. ^1 2 3 4 {{citation |title=Polygonum cilinode Michx. |work=Plants of the World Online |publisher=Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew |url=http://www.plantsoftheworldonline.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:206134-2 |accessdate=2019-03-04}} 3. ^1 {{Citation |editor-last=Turland |editor-first=N.J. |displayeditors=etal |year=2018 |contribution=Art. 60 |title=International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Shenzhen Code) adopted by the Nineteenth International Botanical Congress Shenzhen, China, July 2017 |edition=electronic |publication-place=Glashütten |publisher=International Association for Plant Taxonomy |contribution-url=https://www.iapt-taxon.org/nomen/pages/main/art_60.html |accessdate=2019-03-04 |lastauthoramp=yes }} 4. ^1 2 {{Citation |last1=Schuster |first1=Tanja M. |last2=Reveal |first2=James L. |last3=Bayly |first3=Michael J. |last4=Kron |first4=Kathleen A. |date=2015 |title=An updated molecular phylogeny of Polygonoideae (Polygonaceae): Relationships of Oxygonum, Pteroxygonum, and Rumex, and a new circumscription of Koenigia |journal=Taxon |volume=64 |issue=6 |pages=1188–1208 |doi=10.12705/646.5 |lastauthoramp=yes }}
