The name kūmarahou is a Māori word signifying a shrub.[1] Kūmarahou grows up to four meters in height, and flowers in September, with yellow blossoms. The name "Gumdigger's soap" was given owing to the lather created when the flowers were rubbed with water. Medicinal usesKūmarahou has many uses in traditional Māori medicine, although there is little scientific confirmation of its benefits.[2] Infusions of the leaves have been said to relieve various respiratory ailments and skin disorders.[3] References1. ^{{Cite web|url=http://maoridictionary.co.nz/search?keywords=kumarahou|title=kumarahou – Māori Dictionary|website=maoridictionary.co.nz|dead-url=|access-date=18 December 2017}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q17248302}}{{Use dmy dates|date=January 2019}}{{EngvarB|date=January 2019}}{{Rhamnaceae-stub}}2. ^{{cite_article|author=Herb Federation of New zealand|title=Pomaderris kumaraho|date=March 2008}} 3. ^{{cite journal|title=Demystifying Rongoā Māori: Traditional Māorihealing|journal=Best Practice Journal|year=2008|volume=13|page=35}} 2 : Endemic flora of New Zealand|Pomaderris |
