HistoryThe original chapel was built in 1662, making it Poole's oldest surviving church. In 1663, John Wesley's eponymously named grandfather became first minister of the chapel.[4] The church moved to a new building in 1760, and the present Georgian building was built in 1777 for £1,440. It is the only eighteenth century church building in Poole[4][5] The current vestry was added in 1814, and the chapel was extended in 1823, with the introduction of new galleries, at a cost of around £2,000. The roof was altered in 1886.[5][8] In the nineteenth century, the church had a congregation of over 1,000 people, and the congregation was later split into other United Reformed Churches, including one in Newfoundland.[6] The building and its north-eastern wall and railings became a Grade II* listed building in 1954.[7] In 2014, the church received a grant of £5,000 from the Dorset Historic Churches Trust for roof repairs.[8] In 2015, the church offered free dental care and flu jabs to homeless people.[9] References1. ^{{cite news| url= http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/14423083._quot_Two_mysterious_monsters_were_crawling_towards_them_over_the_craters_quot_/| title= When the first tanks were unleashed upon German forces during WW1| last=Slade| first=Darren| work=Southern Daily Echo| date=13 April 2016| accessdate=17 September 2016}} {{coord|50.71362|-1.98371|type:landmark_region:GB|display=title|format=dms}}2. ^{{cite web|url= https://www.warhistoryonline.com/press-releases/tank-hero-discovered-100-years.html| title= Tank Hero Discovered 100 years On| publisher=War History Online| date=13 September 2016| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web| url= https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/article/411431/Skinner-Street-United-Reformed-Church-Dorset-Adult-Learning-venue| title= Skinner Street United Reformed Church Dorset Adult Learning venue| publisher=Dorset for You| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 4. ^1 {{cite news| url= http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/features/faithmatters/9790991.Poole_s_oldest_church_still_going_strong_at_350_years_old/| title= Poole's oldest church still going strong at 350-years-old| last=Henderson| first=Diana| work=Bournemouth Daily Echo| date=30 June 2012| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 5. ^1 {{cite web| url= http://www.british-history.ac.uk/rchme/dorset/vol2/pp189-240| title= Poole| work=An Inventory of the Historical Monuments in Dorset, Volume 2, South east| via=British History Online| date=1970| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 6. ^{{cite web| url= http://thinktheology.co.uk/blog/article/old_buildings_new_life| title= Old Buildings, New Life| last=Hosier| first=Matthew| publisher=Think Theology| date=22 September 2015| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 7. ^1 {{cite web| url= https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1275356| title= UNITED REFORM CHURCH AND ATTACHED WALL AND RAILINGS TO NORTH EAST| publisher=Historic England| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 8. ^{{cite web| url= http://dhct.siteview.cc/images/PDFandWordFiles/annual_report.pdf| type=pdf| title=Dorset Historic Churches Trust: Annual Report and Review|page=5| publisher=Dorset Historic Churches Trust| date=2015| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 9. ^{{cite news| url= http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/update/2015-11-28/boost-for-homeless-and-vulnerable-people/| title= Boost for homeless and vulnerable people| work=ITV News| date=28 November 2015| accessdate=17 September 2016}} 4 : Grade II* listed churches in Dorset|1777 establishments in England|United Reformed churches in England|Buildings and structures in Poole |
