It was described by Ronald W. Hodges in 1966. It is found in North America, where it has been recorded from California and Nevada.[1][2] The wingspan is 15-19.5 mm. The forewings are varying shades of brown, but darker basally, becoming buff white apically, and with the spots on the disc dark brown, almost black. The hindwings are fuscous buff, with the veins more yellow orange.[3] References1. ^{{cite web |last=Savela |first=Markku |url=http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/gelechioidea/gelechiidae/gelechiinae/prolita/#geniata |title=Prolita geniata (Hodges, 1966) |website=Lepidoptera and Some Other Life Forms |accessdate=January 18, 2019}} {{Taxonbar |from=Q14171250}}{{Gelechiini-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=1886 |title=420813.00 – 1886 – Prolita geniata – (Hodges, 1966) |website=North American Moth Photographers Group |publisher=Mississippi State University |accessdate=January 18, 2019}} 3. ^[https://archive.org/stream/proceedingsofuni1191967unit#page/n379/mode/1up Proceedings of the United States National Museum 119 (3547): 18] 2 : Moths described in 1966|Prolita |
