Some natural populations may occur on the far eastern mainland of Asia in Russia and China. Its specific epithet derives from its Ainu name, meaning "bitter". UsesSome cultivation of this species for its fruit is conducted by people in Japan and on Sakhalin.[1] The Ainu and others use its wood for various crafts, such as hunting weapons, musical instruments, and furniture.[2][3] References1. ^{{cite book |last1=Hanelt |first1=Peter |title=Mansfeld's Encyclopedia of Agricultural and Horticultural Crops: Except Ornamentals |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=10IMFSavIMsC |year=2001 |publisher=Springer |isbn=9783540410171 |page=503}} {{Taxonbar|from1=Q3408657|from2=Q15544153}}2. ^{{cite book |last=Phillipi |first=Donald L. |date=1979 |title=Songs of Gods, Songs of Humans: The Epic Tradition of the Ainu |url= |location= |publisher=Princeton University Press |page=172 |isbn= 9781400870691 |author-link= }} 3. ^{{cite book |last=Sargent |first=Charles Sprague |date=1894 |title=Forest Flora of Japan |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=2pcCAAAAYAAJ |location= |publisher=Houghton, Mifflin |page=38 |isbn= |author-link=Charles Sprague Sargent}} 7 : Bird cherry|Prunus|Flora of Asia|Flora of China|Flora of Japan|Flora of Russia|Plants described in 1868 |
