The type and only known species is Ptilotodon wilsoni, named in 2002 on the basis of a single lower jaw with four teeth found in the Antlers Formation. The small size of the specimen may be an indication that it belonged to a juvenile.[1] References1. ^{{cite journal |last=Nydam |first=Randall |last2=Cifelli|first2=Richard |year=2002 |title=Lizards from the Lower Cretaceous (Aptian-Albian) Antlers and Cloverly Formations |journal=Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology |volume=22 |issue=2 |pages=286–298 |url=https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Richard_Cifelli/publication/236260935_Lizards_from_the_Lower_Cretaceous_(Aptian-Albian)_Antlers_and_Cloverly_formations/links/53d40ecd0cf2a7fbb2e9faf1.pdf |doi=10.1671/0272-4634(2002)022[0286:lftlca]2.0.co;2}} {{Portal|Palaeontology}}{{Extinct squamates|S.}}{{paleo-lizard-stub}} 3 : Early Cretaceous reptiles of North America|Cretaceous lizards|Fossil taxa described in 2002 |
