The site has been registered for the first time in the records of the antiquities general directorate in Baghdad in 1973 by the help of the Kurdish researcher Abdul Raqeeb Yusef. It was one of the sites to be surveyed in the region in 2013 by a French mission directed by Jessica Giraud. In 2016, the British Museum chose the site to excavate and train the Iraqi archaeologists on archaeology and sites protection, a program supported by the British government.[3][4] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.britishmuseum.org/about_us/museum_activity/middle_east/iraq_scheme/darband-i_rania_project.aspx|title=Darband-i Rania Project|website=British Museum}} {{coord|36|12|48.6|N|44|58|38.28|E|display=title}}{{Iraq-geo-stub}}{{Iraqi Kurdistan-geo-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/may/01/training-fieldwork-iraqi-archaeologists-of-the-future-qalatga-darband|title=In the field with Iraq's archaeologists of the future|first=Mary|last=Shepperson|date=1 May 2017|publisher=|via=www.theguardian.com}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/lost-city-iraq-alexander-great-founded-discover-archaeologists-qalatga-darband-a7965651.html|title=Lost city in Iraq founded by Alexander the Great discovered by archaeologists|work=Independent|date=25 September 2017}} 4. ^{{cite web|author=Adrian Lam|url=http://www.realclearlife.com/history/lost-city-founded-by-alexander-the-great-iraq-discovered-in-iraq-with-help-spy-satellites-and-drones/|title=Lost City Discovered in Iraq With Help of Spy Satellites and Drones|work=Real Clear Life}} 3 : Ancient cities of the Middle East|Cities in Iraq|Archaeological sites in Iraq |
