Quinta is a traditional term for an estate, primarily used in Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking world. Originating in the Iberian Peninsula, the designation is far less commonly used in Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. A quinta is a primarily rural property, especially those with historic manors and in continental Portugal. The term is also used as an appellation for agricultural estates, such as wineries, vineyards, and olive groves. Noble estatesThe aristocratic estates of Quinta da Regaleira and the Quinta do Relógio in Sintra, as well as the Quinta da Bacalhoa outside Lisbon are well-known examples. PlacenamesThe civil parish of Quinta Grande on the island of Madeira is also named after the vineyards and farmlands. The Quinta da Bica is historic vineyard. The term was later also kept to name generally larger land estates that might originally have been used for agricultural purposes, but were converted into residential estates. {{agri-stub}}{{Portugal-stub}} 2 : Palaces in Portugal|Agriculture in Portugal |
