|}}Rachael Harder {{post-nominals|country=CAN|MP}} (born 1986) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Lethbridge in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election.[1] Harder is the Shadow Minister for the Status of Women.[2]Pro-life and anti-abortion stance

Harder has been criticized for her stance on abortion rights.[3] She has voted to fund pro-life centres and gave two centres $12,000 in federal grants in her riding of Lethbridge, Alberta.[4] Harder also co-sponsored Bill C-225 for fetal rights[5]. She believes life begins at conception and has promised to introduce and pass laws to protect "unborn children".[6] She is quoted as saying she will "always advocate for the preborn" and would not support abortion rights in cases of incest.[7] Harder has a near-perfect pro-life rating and is an outspoken advocate against a woman's right to choose.[8]

In September 2017, Harder was nominated by Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer to chair the parliamentary committee on the Status of Women. However, MPs from other parties walked out and a vote did not occur due in protest to her pro-life position.[9][10][11] Liberal MP Monsef explained that the committee "decided that having their spokesperson, and their chair, be someone who does not support a woman's right to choose, is not supportive a person's rights, is not the best choice".[12]

Position against sexual education and criticism of Alberta public school teachers

In 2011, Harder told Christian Week that many public school teachers in Alberta encourage students to engage in "risky sexual behaviour". [13]

Partisan Misuse of Government Funding

In the April 2019 edition of The Meliorist, Harder was exposed for having posted a job offer that included explicitly partisan qualifications. Specifically, the posting stated that the successful candidate would "help build the conservative movement, (…) participate in door-knocking, (have) belief in Conservative principles (and hold) a valid CPC membership."[14] When asked for clarification of the topic, Harder's refused to provide a comment on the matter.
