It is headquartered in the Apostolic Vicariate of Jaén which is also administered by the Jesuits, and is named for the chief source of the Amazon River, the Marañón River, which flows through Jaén. HistoryAfter 1985, the Educational Institute of Radio Marañón (INTERAMA) was created.[1]. In 1994 it became a member of the Latin American Association of Radio Education,[2] and later of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters. During the repressive, right-leaning Fujimori 1990s, seven Radio Marañón journalists were threatened and one narrowly escaped death in an assassination attempt.[3] In 2001 FM Stereo Marañón 96.1 "Atrévete" was initiated as a commercial station.[4] In 2003 the station was one of eight recipients of the Eloy Arribas award bestowed by Peru's National Radio Coordinator (CNR).[4] In 2005 CNR decried unjust charges against Francisco Muguiro Ibarra, director of Radio Marañón de Jaén, in which Panamericana Televisión accused him and several communal leaders of supporting a violent terrorist network because they defended local communities from the intrusion of foreign mining companies. CNR also mentioned Fr. Muguiro’s active participation in the Life and Peace National Campaign in the 1980s, when he received a death threat from the Shining Path communist party in Peru.[5] In 2011, the programming of FM and AM were unified with programs reaching both rural and urban areas.[6] References1. ^{{Cite book|url=https://archive.org/details/LineaDeFormacionEInvestigacionDeAler|title=Linea de Formacion e Investigacion de ALER|last=Radionauta}} {{Coord|5|42|34.07|S|78|48|42.05|W|display=title}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=https://sistema.aler.org/?q=afiliadas-sitio-web&field_afiliada_pais_tid=33|title=Nuestras Afiliadas {{!}} Sistema ALER|website=sistema.aler.org|access-date=2017-10-31}} 3. ^{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=9VeI76JSJZAC&pg=PA147&lpg=PA147&dq=Radio+Mara%C3%B1%C3%B3n&source=bl&ots=M9k3f-5JRf&sig=kQTFTXi1rNY2vifLVdsAWgVwhy8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi9hKSr45nXAhUFy2MKHRsDCFQ4PBDoAQg5MAM#v=onepage&q=Radio%20Mara%C3%B1%C3%B3n&f=false|title=World Report 2000|last=(Organization)|first=Human Rights Watch|last2=Staff|first2=Human Rights Watch|date=1999|publisher=Human Rights Watch|isbn=9781564322388|language=en}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www2.caretas.pe/2003/1794/articulos/cnr.html|title=CARETAS HOME PAGE|website=www2.caretas.pe|access-date=2017-10-31}} 5. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://www.radiomaranon.org.pe/index.php/institucional/historia|title=Historia - ::Radio Marañón::|last=Master|first=Web|website=www.radiomaranon.org.pe|language=es-es|access-date=2017-10-30}} 3 : Jesuit development centres|Organizations established in 1976|Radio in Peru |
