He is best known for his award-winning Konkani films, Aleesha and O Maria.[1][2] Early lifeTalak was born in Comba, Margao. He completed his education from Mahila Nutan and Popular High Schools in Margao and later joined Parvatibai Chowgule College, from which he graduated in science. He always loved sports and in school, he was a state ranking table tennis player, and even went on to represent his college in table tennis and badminton. In the 1970s, Talak's friend, Sushant Keshav Naik (who was a tabla player), created a music group called Mahesh Kumar & Party, of which Talak was an active part of. The group later merged into the Gomant Vidya Niketan Kala Vibha, staging many dramas in Marathi and even winning many awards. Here, Talak gained experience in the many aspects of theatre, which led him to a love for cinema. While handling the music for one of their plays, Shitu, Talak decided that the story was worth making into a movie, which began his journey into filmmaking.[1] CareerTalak began his career with the tele-film Shitu in 1994, which was based on a child widow. Talak received praise for this film from the noted director Shyam Benegal, whom he had invited for the film's release.[1] In 2002, Talak decided to make a film about the pollution caused by mining in Goa. Upon learning that Goa would host the International Film Festival of India in 2004, Talak quickly finished the shooting and post production of Aleesha. The film premiered at the 35th International Film Festival of India and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Konkani at the 52nd National Film Awards.[1][3] His next film was bilingual, titled Antarnaad in Konkani and Savalee in Marathi, and it premiered at IFFI 2006. It went on to win five national awards and seven state awards. He then made another bilingual film, Saavariyaa.com in 2010, which was about internet marriage in Goa.[4] Talak's 2011 film, O Maria, dealt with the loss of identity that Goa faced and was a commercial success in the state.[1][2][5][6] In 2014, Talak released the Marathi film A Rainy Day, which was about corruption. It was screened at the Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai in 2014.[3] In 2016, Talak was appointed as the Vice-Chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) by the Government of Goa.[7] ESG co-hosts the International Film Festival of India.[8] Filmography
ControversyOn 22 November 2018, at the 49th International Film Festival of India, delegates who had gathered to watch the Danish crime thriller The Guilty began protesting at Kala Academy when they were not allowed to enter the theater. This led to a clash between them and the organizers. In the resulting argument, Talak was quoted as asking delegates from Kerala to "go back home". A complaint was filed by Kerala-based director Kamal KM to IFFI CEO, Ameya Abhyankar. Following this, 29 other Malayali delegates, including 11 National Film winners like Dileesh Pothen and Dr Biju, signed a petition requesting a formal apology from Talak. When asked to comment, Talak replied that he had told the delgates to go back as the show was housefull.[9][10] Personal lifeFamilyTalak lives in Borda, Margao, with his wife, Priyanka Bidaye (who starred in Aleesha) and son Manas.[1] Other venturesTalak also runs a construction business named "Talak Constructions". He also co-founded the "Kalangan Centre for Performing Arts" in Margao, of which he has previously been the president.[1] Community workTalak has planted trees under the Swachh Bharat mission in his hometown of Margao. He also helps out in the landscaping of mini gardens in the city.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{Cite web |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Margaos-constructive-filmmaker/articleshow/49121139.cms |title=Margao’s constructive filmmaker |last=Monteiro |first=Lisa |date=Sep 27, 2015 |website=The Times of India |access-date=2018-12-21}} 2. ^1 {{Cite news |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/O-Maria-crosses-100-day-threshold/articleshow/7811888.cms |title=O Maria crosses 100-day threshold |date=Mar 29, 2011 |website=The Times of India |access-date=2018-12-21}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web |url=https://www.news18.com/news/india/national-award-winning-filmmaker-rajendra-talak-wants-people-to-discuss-corruption-openly-on-public-platforms-712546.html |title=National Award-winning filmmaker Rajendra Talak wants people to discuss corruption openly, on public platforms |date=Sep 9, 2014 |website=News18 |access-date=2018-12-21}} 4. ^{{Cite web |url=https://www.outlookindia.com/newswire/story/my-film-would-have-made-it-to-the-panorama-section-talak/640430 |title=My film would have made it to the Panorama section: Talak |website=Outlook India |access-date=2018-12-28}} 5. ^{{Cite news |url=http://zeenews.india.com/entertainment/idiotbox/goa-director-s-konkani-films-to-be-screened-on-tv_100544.html |title=Goa Director`s Konkani films to be screened on TV |date=2011-11-19 |website=Zee News |language=en |access-date=2018-12-21}} 6. ^{{Cite web |url=https://www.dnaindia.com/lifestyle/report-konkani-cinema-for-love-not-money-1763145 |title=Konkani cinema: For love not money |last=Lobo |first=Joanna |date=Nov 11, 2012 |website=DNA India |language=en |access-date=2018-12-28}} 7. ^{{Cite web |url=https://www.indiatoday.in/pti-feed/story/talak-is-new-vice-chairman-of-entertainment-society-of-goa-729049-2016-10-24 |title=Talak is new vice-chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa |date=Oct 24, 2016 |website=India Today |language=en |access-date=2018-12-21}} 8. ^{{Cite news |url=http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2017/dec/05/makers-can-screen-s-durga-at-other-fests-iffi-co-organiser-rajendra-talak-1719280.html |title=Makers can screen 'S Durga' at other fests: IFFI co-organiser Rajendra Talak |date=Dec 5, 2017 |website=The New Indian Express |access-date=2018-12-21}} 9. ^{{Cite news |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/at-iffi-rajendra-talak-tells-kerala-delegates-go-back-home/articleshow/66761149.cms |title=At Iffi, Rajendra Talak tells Kerala delegates: Go back home |last=Malkarnekar |first=Gauree |date=Nov 23, 2018 |website=The Times of India |access-date=2018-12-21}} 10. ^{{Cite news |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kochi/iffi-controversy-rajendra-talak-expressed-interest-to-meet-after-the-incident-but-i-didnt-want-to-go-says-k-m-kamal/articleshow/66808551.cms |title=IFFI controversy: Rajendra Talak expressed interest to meet after the incident, but I didn’t want to go, says K M Kamal |last=Soman |first=Deepa |date=Nov 26, 2018 |website=The Times of India |access-date=2018-12-21}} External links
