It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 16, 1984.[1] HistoryThe house was built in 1840 for James Walker, President James K. Polk's brother-in-law.[2] Walker was the publisher of The Western Chronicle, a Columbia newspaper, and chancellor of Maury County.[2] Walker lived in the house with his wife, née Jane Maria Polk, and their three sons, including Lucius M. Walker, who served as a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.[2] From 1900 to 1912, the house belonged to William M. Biddle, a physician who served as the mayor of Columbia.[2] ArchitectureIt is a two-and-a-half-story house, designed in a transitional style between Federal and Greek Revival architectural styles.[2] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Rally Hill}}{{Tennessee-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=84003638}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Rally Hill |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=May 13, 2018}} With {{NRHP url|id=84003638|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}} 5 : National Register of Historic Places in Maury County, Tennessee|Federal architecture in Tennessee|Greek Revival architecture in Tennessee|Houses completed in 1840|Polk family |
