Thomas was educated at St David's College, Lampeter and ordained in 1971.After curacies in Cydweli and Carmarthen he was Team Vicar of Aberystwyth from 1976 to 1981. He was at Betws-cum-Ammanford from 1981 until 1993; and Carmarthen from 1993 until 2002. He was Vicar of Bronllys from 2002 until 2006; and Priest in charge of Llanfrynach from 2006 until 2013. He is a Sub-Prelate of the Venerable Order of Saint John.^[3]
