Dusza is of Polish descent and began his career in public service when he entered the US Naval Reserve at Niagara Falls, New York when he was 17-years old. On February 4, 1954, he changed his service to the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division in order to become a paratrooper. After his military service, Dusza worked at the Westinghouse Electric in Cheektowaga, where he became the union president. After the plant closed and he was laid off Dennis Gorski asked him to run for county legislature in the next election.
