It is an upright but often spreading shrub with tiny wedge shaped leaves and small heads of pink flowers on the ends of its branches in the warmer months. DescriptionRegelia inops is an upright, often spreading shrub which grows to a height of {{convert|0.75–2.5|m|ft|sigfig=1|abbr=on}}. The leaves are arranged in alternating pairs (decussate) so that they make four rows along the stems. They are egg-shaped or triangular, and {{convert|1-4|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long with their lower part pressed against the stem.[1][2][3][4]The flowers are mauve and arranged in small heads on the ends of branches which continue to grow after flowering and sometimes also on small side branches. There are 5 sepals, 5 petals and 5 bundles of stamens. The stamens, which give the flowers their colour, are about {{convert|6.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and are joined for about half their length. Flowering occurs in the warmer months and is followed by fruit which are woody capsules, often in small, almost spherical clusters around the stem.[1][2][3] Taxonomy and namingRegelia inops was first formally described in 1848 by J.C.Schauer in the journal Plantae Preissianae.[5][6] He had previously given it the name Beaufortia inops.[7] The specific epithet (inops) is a Latin word meaning "poor", "helpless" or "weak".[8]Distribution and habitatThis regelia is widely distributed in the Avon Wheatbelt, Coolgardie, Esperance Plains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Swan Coastal Plain biogeographic regions.[3] It grows in sandy soils on sandplains and in areas that are wet in winter.[9] ConservationRegelia inops is classified as "not threatened" by the Western Australian Government Department of Parks and Wildlife.[3]Use in horticultureThe neat foliage and well displayed flowers make Regelia inops a suitable plant for gardens. It is easily propagated from seed or from cuttings.[10] References1. ^1 {{cite book|last1=Bentham|first1=George|last2=von Mueller|first2=Ferdinand|title=Flora Australiensis (Volume 3)|date=1867|publisher=Lovell Reeve and Co.|location=London|page=171|url=https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/41807#page/179/mode/1up|accessdate=27 August 2015}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15380640}}2. ^1 {{cite web|title=The genus Regelia|url=http://anpsa.org.au/APOL25/mar02-14.html|publisher=Australian Native Plants Society Australia|accessdate=27 August 2015}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|title=Regelia inops |url=https://florabase.dpaw.wa.gov.au/browse/profile/523374|publisher=FloraBase|accessdate=27 August 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web|last1=Fagg|first1=Murray|title=Regelia ciliata|url=http://www.cpbr.gov.au/myrtaceae/pdf/regelia-ciliata.pdf|publisher=Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research|accessdate=26 August 2015}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Regelia inops|url= https://biodiversity.org.au/boa/instance/apni/523374|publisher=APNI|accessdate=27 August 2015}} 6. ^{{cite journal|last1=Schauer|first1=Johannes Conrad|title=Myrtaceae R.Br.|journal=Plantae Preissianae|date=1848|volume=2|issue=2-3|page=224|url=https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/9228#page/225/mode/1up|accessdate=27 August 2015}} 7. ^{{cite web|title=Beaufortia inops|url= https://biodiversity.org.au/boa/instance/apni/546780|publisher=APNI|accessdate=27 August 2015}} 8. ^{{cite book|last1=Brown|first1=Roland Wilbur|title=The Composition of Scientific Words|date=1956|publisher=Smithsonian Institution Press|location=Washington, D.C.|page = 625}} 9. ^{{cite book|last1=Paczkowska|first1=Grazyna|last2=Chapman|first2=Alex R.|title=The Western Australian flora : a descriptive catalogue|date=2000|publisher=Wildflower Society of Western Australia|location=Perth|isbn=0646402439|page=400}} 10. ^{{cite book|last1=Wrigley|first1=John W.|last2=Fagg|first2=Murray|title=Australian native plants : a manual for their propagation, cultivation and use in landscaping|date=1983|publisher=Collins|location=Sydney|isbn=0002165759|page=293|edition=2nd}} 5 : Regelia|Myrtales of Australia|Flora of Western Australia|Plants described in 1848|Endemic flora of Western Australia |
