Life and workRenaldi was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1968 and grew up there.[10] He moved to New York City in 1986.[3] He lived in Los Angeles for two years, starting in 2003.[2] He received a BFA in photography from New York University[10] in 1990. Figure and Ground was made over seven years. Fall River Boys was made over nine years, beginning in 2000. Touching Strangers was made over seven years, beginning in 2007, and inspired by an earlier series of Renaldi's, Bus Travelers, "that looked at the intimate spaces strangers often share."[6][13] Manhattan Sunday was made between 2010 and 2016. Renaldi established Charles Lane Press in 2008 to publish new projects by contemporary photographers.[14] PublicationsPublications by Renaldi
